What is a Mystery Quilt?
-
In a Nutshell - It is where you are given the fabric choice & yardage requirements, then receive the blocks, borders & layout in installments. The Final layout of what your quilt will be is not revealed till the end.
-
The idea behind mystery quilts is to sew along as the installments are given. There is a bit of freedom and excitement in not knowing what you are making.
-
I have often heard from those who have made some of the past mysteries that they were amazed and thrilled with what they accomplished. Many say if they had looked at the finished quilt first they may never had made it because t hey would have thought it was beyond their skill level. By having only little bits to do at a time they never feel overwhelmed!
What are the patterns like?
-
All are Original Quilt Designs by Sue Wilkins for Quilt Seeds Designs.
-
They are generally a combination of theme blocks & traditional /or variations on traditional blocks.
-
Foundation Pieced (paperpieced) construction is included in each mystery, but there will be other elements added from time to time.
-
They will vary in size from Wall Quilt to Bed Size Quilts. Usually you can increase or decrease the number of blocks & borders to change the size of your finished quilt.

When do I join?
What is the Timeframe of Each Mystery?
-
Each will run 3-4 months in duration. 4 complete mystery quilts will be presented during the calendar year.
-
Installments will generally be presented twice a month on the 1st & the 15th in order to give you time to sew the necessary number of blocks.
-
As the blocks are presented I'll provide a link to the page which shows a graphic of where the block fits into the finished quilt. If you have joined after a number of blocks have been posted, you may choose to look ahead to see the results, or you may wish to keep it a mystery and not peek!
